Here my commentary on stay human. (in Italian)

First of all I want to thank Fulvio Renzi, curator of the project STAY HUMAN – THE READING MOVIE for giving me this opportunity.

Then, for all people who are now probably asking for who I am, my name is Paolo and I recently went to Palestine, to Hebron to be exact, with the ISM (INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT), the same association which Vik belonged to.

During my experience in West Bank I wondered many times what it meant to stay human, but more importantly I wondered how to stay human. Because it was not easy to stay human every time I saw a Israeli soldier or settler to humiliate, to offend, to treat or mistreat the Palestinian more like animals than human beings. Or every time I saw a Palestinian home demolished... So I thought that if I knew how to stay human than I understood what it meant to stay human.

Well, for me to stay human means don't turn our back when we are witness of injustice, it means not to abandon the victims of violence, it means to stay always on the side of the weakest, on the side of the suffering people, on the side of those who are oppressed and never on the side of artful, violent or bully people, the bully or the powerful people, because the history has taught us that nearly always the powerful people are also the bullies.

To stay human also means to look at ourselves and discover that we still have a heart, to discover that we are more interested about the human relationships than money or success in life, to stay human means to be with a clear conscience, to be at peace with ourselves, believing we have always done what we think is right rather than what is imposed on us in some way from society patterns which are corrupt, violent and even coward.

To stay human means to find ourselves with a life filled with friends and people who love us rather than to find ourselves, perhaps with an important job, rich, but alone or surrounded by people who fear or hate us.

To stay human means essentially to be able to look at our own eyes and don't feel shame.

But I'd like to conclude my brief comment with a piece of a Vik's sentence. Vik once wrote: we will continue to make poems of our lives, until freedom will not be recited on the broken chains of all oppressed peoples.

That's it, for me stay human mean to continue to make poems of our lives.

Questo è il post più difficile. 
Il post dei saluti.
Il momento di partire, il momento di lasciare la Palestina, alla fine è arrivato. Fra pochi giorni tornerò in Italia (o sono già tornato? "Cara" polizia israeliana di confine, non voglio rendervi il lavoro così semplice...). 
Ma non mi fermerò in Italia, dopo poco riprenderò un aereo e volerò in Sud America, un continente a me caro, dove ho vissuto e lasciato il cuore e tanti ricordi stupendi, un continente che mi ha cambiato la vita. 
Lavorerò, incontrerò persone, e indossando sempre la mia kefiah parlerò con più gente possibile perchè anche dall'altra parte dell'oceano sappiano cosa succede in Palestina, sperando così che tutte le persone che subiscono continuamente la violenza del potere, possano un giorno unirsi in una lotta comune per la conquista del rispetto dei diritti umani e della libertà.
Saluto e abbraccio i palestinesi tutti che mi hanno accolto come un figlio, e i miei compagni dell'ISM, che rimarranno sempre nel mio cuore: ritornerò presto, non perchè voi abbiate bisogno di me, che sono uno dei tanti, ma piuttosto perchè io ho bisogno di voi. Mi avete insegnato cosa è la libertà e non posso più vivere senza.
Non so se riuscirò a continuare a scrivere su questo blog, magari dandovi notizie di ciò che succede in Sud America, quindi per il momento vi saluto e vi ringrazio di avermi letto.
Un abbraccio grande e resistente da... qualche parte del mondo.




SEE YOU SOON PALESTINE



This is the most difficult post I've never written.
The post of the greetings.
The time to leave, time to fly away from Palestine, finally is coming. In a few days I'll go back to Italy (or maybe I've already left? "Dear" Israeli border police, I don't want to make your job easy...).
But I'll not stop in Italy, shortly after I'll fly to South America, a continent I love, where I lived and where I left my heart and a lot of wonderful memories, a continent that changed my life.
I'll work, I'll meet people, and always wearing my kefiah I'll talk with as many people as possible so that also people on the other side of the ocean know what's happening in Palestine, with the hope that all the people, who suffer constant violence by the power, can join together to fight to conquer the respect of the human rights and the freedom.
I greet and I hug all the Palestinians who welcomed me like a child, and my ISMers comrades, which will always stay in my heart: I'll return soon, not because you need me, who I'm one of many, but rather because I need you. You taught me freedom and now I can't live without it.
I don't know if I'll be able to continue to write on this blog, giving you news about Suoth America, so now I say goodbye to you and I thank you for have read me.

QUALCOSA NON MI TORNA

C'è qualcosa che vorrei scrivere riguardo le attenzioni che la stampa internazionale ha riservato agli ultimi avvenimenti accaduti qui in West Bank.

La notizia del nostro compagno danese colpito in faccia con un fucile M-16 e la conseguente sospensione dell'ufficiale israeliano, è stata diffusa e condivisa da decine e decine di siti internet di informazione, riportata da moltissimi quotidiani nazionali ed internazionali, e mostrata da diverse televisioni anche europee.

In Italia, ad esempio, su diversi siti internet di informazione, è stato dato molto risalto ai due italiani (arrivati a Tel Aviv con la Flytilla) detenuti per 12 ore nelle carceri israeliane, o al signore italiano (sempre della Flytilla) che invece è riuscito ad entrare in Palestina.

Finalmente si parla di ciò che succede da queste parti, in modo che tutti riescano a farsi un'idea di come Israele non sia in realtà una democrazia, ma piuttosto un paese governato da fanatici razzisti che con il terrore cercano da anni di portare avanti una pulizia etnica inaccettabile in qualsiasi epoca storica, tanto più oggi, nel ventunesimo secolo.

Ma la mia paura è che se ne parli tanto adesso solo perchè sono coinvolti gli internazionali. E quando per anni, le stesse ingiustizie sono state subite quotidianamente dai palestinesi, perchè nessun giornale si è scomodato? Perchè nessun ufficiale è stato sospeso? Non siamo tutti esseri umani? Gli europei sono più importanti dei palestinesi?

Che schifo!

THERE IS SOMETHIG WRONG

There's something I want to tell about the attention that the international press has given to recent events happened here in the West Bank.

The news of our Danish mate hit in the face with an M-16 rifle and the resulting suspension of the Israeli officer, was distributed and shared by dozens and dozens of information websites, reported by many national and international newspapers, and shown by several European television stations also.

In Italy, for example, on various websites, it has been given much prominence to the two Italians (who arrived in Tel Aviv with the Flytilla) imprisoned in Israeli jails for 12 hours, or to the Italian gentleman (always with the Flytilla), which has been able to enter in Palestine.

At last we talk about what happens around here, so that all people can get an idea of how Israel is not really a democracy, but rather a country ruled by fanatical racists who try by terror to realize an ethnic cleansing unacceptable in any historical period, especially in the twenty-first century.

But my fear is that we speak now about Palestine only because internationals are involved. And when every day, for years, Palestinians were suffering the same injustices, why no newspaper reported the news? Why no officer has been suspended? Don't we are all human beings? Are the Europeans more important than the Palestinians?

That's disgusting!

Se per voi il comportamento dell'esercito israeliano è normale e giustificato, continuate tranquillamente a fare le vostre vite ma smettete di leggermi, che non serve a niente. Se invece vi indignate, per favore fate conoscere questo schifo al mondo intero intasando di telefonate, mail, messaggi o cosa volete voi le redazioni dei giornali , delle TV delle ambasciate, postate il video e le foto sui vostri blog (se ne avete), fatele vedere agli amici, inventatevi qualcosa ma iniziate anche voi ad alzare la voce, altrimenti le botte che noi prendiamo qua sono inutili. Vi prego iniziate a fare qualcosa di concreto, tutti insieme riusciremo a farci sentire!

If you believe that the Israeli army behavior is normal and justified, you can continue to make your lives quietly but stop to read my blog, because it's useless. If instead you're angry, please spread this shit to the whole world by phone calls, emails, or what you want and send it to editors of newspapers, TV, embassies, post the videos and the photos on your blog (if you have one), show it to your friends, invent something but you also start to raise your voice, otherwise we get a beating here needlessly. Please start to do something concrete, all together we'll be able to be felt!

DEPORTAZIONE

VIOLENTI E FALSI

In questi giorni è in corso la Conferenza Internazionale per la Resistenza Popolare di Bil'in nella quale partecipano, oltre ai palestinesi, numerose rappresentative di vari Paesi, fra cui l'Italia.

Il 12 aprile 2012, la Conferenza itinerante ha fatto tappa ad Hebron.

Appena finita la pausa pranzo, i partecipanti alla Conferenza di ritorno dal ristorante sono stati improvvisamente ed inspiegabilmente attaccati dall'esercito israeliano.

Il risultato di questo blitz a parte alcuni feriti, almeno 12 persone arrestate di cui alcune rilasciate dopo poche ore.

La polizia israeliana ha deciso in serata di confermare l'arresto di due palestinesi, fra cui l'organizzatore della Conferenza e di due italiani fra cui un nostro compagno dell'ISM.

Fino a tarda serata non ci è stato possibile avere notizie precise riguardo le loro condizioni.

Le accuse assolutamente false a loro carico: violenza sui militari e partecipazione a manifestazione non autorizzata.

A parte il fatto che non era in corso nessuna manifestazione giudicate voi dai video chi è che usa violenza.

La mattina del 13 aprile abbiamo appreso che i due italiani verranno deportati forzatamente in Italia senza neanche avere diritto ad un processo per difendersi dalle accuse assolutamente false!
L'ultima notizia è che uno dei due italiani ha rifiutato la deportazione, vedremo questo cosa comporterà.

Visto che sono certo che a livello ufficiale non verrà fatta nessuna protesta vi chiedo di intasare la posta dei vari quotidiani nazionali, dell'ambasciata, dei politici e di chiunque abbia un minimo di visibilità e “potere” per chiedere chiarezza sull'accaduto.

È ora che Israele la smetta con questa politica arbitraria, dittatoriale e terrorista! È ora di alzare la voce e che un coro di protesta popolare ricopra i loro ridicoli piagnistei di antisemitismo quando qualcuno prova a criticare lo stato di Israele. Il primo nemico di Israele è la sua stessa politica razzista e inumana!

VIOLENT AND FALSE

In these days it's in progress the International Conference of Popular Resistance in Bil'in in which, as well as Palestinians, representing of many different countries, including Italy are attending.

On April 12 2012, the itinerant Conference has stopped in Hebron.
Just after lunch, conference participants returning from the restaurant were suddenly and inexplicably attacked by the Israeli army.
The result of this blitz apart from some wounded at least 12 people arrested some of them released after a few hours.
The Israeli police decided last night to confirm the arrest of two Palestinians, including the organizer of the Conference, and two Italians including one of our ISM comrades.
Until the night it was no possible to have precise information about their conditions.
Absolutely false charges against them: violence against soldiers and participation in an unauthorized demonstration.
Apart from the fact that it was no demonstration you can judge by yourself watching the videos who is using violence.
On April 13 in the morning we have heard that the two Italians will be forcibly deported to Italy without even having the right to defend themselves against totally false charges!
Breaking news: one of the two italian men refused the deportation, we'll see the consequences of this choose.
Since I am certain that at the official level they will not protest I ask you to overload phone and mail of several national newspapers, of the embassy, of politicians and of anyone with the necessary visibility and "power" to ask for clarification about it.

It is time for Israel to stop this arbitrary, dictatorial and terrorist policy! It is time to raise our voice and that a chorus of popular protest covers their ridiculous whining about anti-Semitism when someone tries to criticize the state of Israel. The first enemy of Israel it's own racist and inhuman policy!

CHI È IL VIOLENTO?

Queste sono le immagini e il video del tentativo di arresto in cui ho parlato nel mio post precedente.

Due giorni dopo questo fatto hanno arrestato un nostro compagno italiano (Vito, l'autore delle splendide foto!) scambiandolo per me con le seguenti accuse: lancio di pietre e pestaggio di un poliziotto. Mi avete visto nel video tirare una pietra? Mi avete visto picchiare un poliziotto o piuttosto le ho prese e basta? Dalle foto e dal video si vede bene chi è il violento!

La cosa più assurda è che Vito è stato “riconosciuto” da due militari durante il processo, nonostante in tutte le foto lui non compaia mai e ci sono sempre io a cercare di difendere due ragazze e mai a picchiare! Quindi nonostante nessuna prova a suo carico viene rilasciato sotto condizione di non avvicinarsi a più di 300 metri dalla moschea, in piano centro città, e di non partecipare a nessuna dimostrazione!

La stessa pena è stata inflitta anche ad un altro nostro compagno statunitense Jospeh arrestato solo perchè camminava insieme a Vito!

La domanda è: perchè se non ha fatto niente gli sono state comunque date delle condizioni? La risposta ormai dovreste conoscerla: perchè Israele è l'unica democrazia del Medio Oriente..Anche se assomiglia incredibilmente ad una dittatura basata sul terrorizzare chiunque appoggi pacificamente il popolo palestinese, non vi pare?

WHO IS THE VIOLENT?

These pictures and the video are about the attempted arrest mentioned in my previous post.

Two days after this the Israeli police arrested one of our Italian comrade (Vito, the author of the great pictures!) mistaking him for me with the following charges: throwing stones and beating a policeman. Have you seen me in the video throwing a stone? Have you seen me beating a policeman or rather I just have been beaten? From the pictures and video you can clearly see who is the violent!

The craziest thing is that Vito was "recognized" by two soldiers during the process, in spite of all the pictures show how he never is involved and only me trying to defend two girls and never beating a policeman or throwing stones!

So despite no evidence against him he has been released under the condition not to approach more than 300 meters from the mosque in the city centre, and do not participate in any demonstration!

The same conditions have been charged on another our mate, Joseph from USA, who was arrested just because he was walking with Vito.

The question is: if Vito didn't do anything, why the court gave him restriction? The answer my friends you should be know: because Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East..Although it seems more a dictatorship founded on terrify everyone supporting peacefully Palestinians, don't you think so?

BUONA PASQUA

LA SORPRESA NELL'UOVO


Oggi 8 Aprile 2012 ad Hebron è una Pasqua un pò particolare.

L'esercito israeliano ha chiuso il check point che collega la parte araba della città (la Old City) con la moschea e con Shuhada Street (la strada dell'apartheid) fin dalle 7 la mattina impedendo ai palestinesi l'accesso ad un'intera area della città. Nel corso della mattinata sono stati chiusi progressivamente altri check point fino a che alle 14.30 circa hanno chiuso l'accesso ad una intera via, in pieno centro, nella parte araba, costringendo i negozianti a chiudere anche i negozi. Tutto questo perchè? Perchè un gruppo di coloni doveva festeggiare la pasqua ebraica nella parte araba della città e quindi per ragioni di sicurezza veniva impedito a qualsiasi palestinese o internazionale di avvicinarsi ai coloni. Persone forzate a stare in casa per ore (hanno riaperto la strada alle 18 circa) a tenere i negozi chiusi e a non poter circolare liberamente per le strade della propria città da un esercito di uno stato straniero.

Alle nostre proteste dovute alla assurda situazione che si era venuta a creare, sono seguite le prime reazioni violente da parte dell'esercito e della polizia fino a che non hanno cercato di arrestarci, per fortuna senza successo, a parte una nostra compagna subito rilasciata.

Riuscite ad immaginare la polizia e l'esercito siriano, egiziano o libanese, tanto per fare un esempio, che in terra israeliana decidono chi può passare in certe aree e chi no, quando può passare e quando invece è costretto ad aspettare chiuso in casa, pena l'arresto?

Sarebbe normale? Invece Israele non si può neanche criticare altrimenti siamo antisemiti...

In questi giorni c'era anche Mario Monti in visita in Israele e nei Territori Occupati (Nena News ) Ti do un consiglio Mario: invece di partecipare alle funzioni religiose private a Gerusalemme ed andare a cena con Shimon Peres, se vuoi veramente capire cosa succede, fatti un giro da queste parti e guarda come vengono trattati i palestinesi e pure i tuoi concittadini; osserva le continue umiliazioni e discriminazioni a cui sono giornalmente costretti i palestinesi e solo dopo dai le tue possibili soluzioni al problema (Il Fatto Quotidiano). Altrimenti sono solo stupide vuote parole di un ignorante che non sa neanche di cosa sta parlando.

THE SURPRISE IN THE EASTER EGG

Today, April 8, 2012 in Hebron it's a little special Easter.

The Israeli army closed the checkpoint linking the Arab side of the city (Old City) with the mosque and Shuhada Street (the road of apartheid) since 7 a.m. to preventing Palestinian access to an entire area of the city.

During the morning they closed progressively more checkpoints and about 2.30 p.m. they closed the access to an entire street in the center, on the Arab side, forcing shopkeepers to close their the shops. And why this? Because a group of settlers had to celebrate the Passover in the Arab part of town, so for security reasons they prevented any Palestinian or international from approaching to the settlers.
People forced to stay inside their house for hours (they reopened the road at about 18) to stay with their shops closed and unable to move freely through the streets of their city by some soldiers of a foreign state. Our protest, due to the absurd situation, caused the first violent reactions by the army and police until they tried to arrest us, fortunately without success, except one of our comrade immediately released.

Can you imagine, just as an example, the Syrian, Egyptian or Lebanese police and army, that in Israeli land decide who can go in some areas and who not, when Israeli people can go and when they are forced to wait quietly at home, otherwise they can be arrested? It would be normal? But we can't criticize Israel because if we do it we're anti-Semitic...

During these days Mario Monti is visiting Israel and the Palestinian Occupied Territories (Nena News) Mario, I give you my advice: instead to attend a private church service and to go to Jerusalem to have a dinner with Shimon Peres, if you really want to understand what happens, take a walk around here and look how Palestinians and also your fellow citizen are badly treated; look at the continuing humiliation and discrimination to Palestinians are forced every day and only after expose your possible solutions to the problem (Il Fatto Quotidiano). Otherwise they are just stupid empty words of an ignorant who does not even know what he's talking about.

Cosa succede ai palestinesi che, con l'aiuto di alcuni internazionali (noi dell'ISM), cercano di occupare una casa?

E cosa succede invece ai coloni israeliani che occupano una casa? Niente!

Prima gli vengono concesse 24 ore di tempo per evacuare (Haaretz) poi, visto che i coloni non se ne vanno, interviene personalmente il ministro della difesa per posporre l'evacuazione. (972 magazine)
Notate qualche differenza? Non è per caso discriminazione razziale? Non siamo tutti uguali, vero?

E questo è giusto o sbagliato?

Adesso chiedo ai giornalisti italiani tanto famosi che subito gridano allo scandalo e all'antisemitismo quando qualcuno osa criticare la politica israeliana: questa ingiustizia non è degna di essere commentata? Non la ritenete abbastanza importante da suscitare il vostro interesse?

Se la vostra risposta è no, non vi lamentate se il giorno che sarete vittima di qualche ingiustizia sarete lasciati soli e nessuno si interesserà al vostro problema; se qualche dittatorucolo vi obbligherà al silenzio censurandovi o incarcerandovi, non urlate che tanto nessuno vi sente e a nessuno interessa il vostro problema. Anzi, ve lo sarete meritato perchè non siete mai stati giornalisti liberi, e la libertà va conquistata, non è un prodotto usa e getta che si trova sugli scaffali di qualche supermercato.

What happens to the Palestinians that, with the help of some international (the ISMers), try to occupy a house?

On the contrary what happens to Israeli settlers who occupy a house? Nothing!

First they are granted 24 hours of time to evacuate (Haaretz) then, as the settlers do not leave, the defense minister personally intervened to delay the evacuation. (972 magazine)

Notice any difference? Probably is it racial discrimination? We are not all equal, aren't we?

And is this right or wrong?

Now I ask so famous Italian journalists, who immediately cry scandal and anti-Semitism when someone dares to criticize Israeli policy: is this injustice not worthy to be commented? Isn't it so important to excite your interest?

If your answer is no, do not complain if one day you'll be the victim of some injustice and you will be left alone and no one will give you attention, if some little dictator force you to silence by censorship or jail, do not shout because no one hears and no one cares about you and your problem. Indeed, you'll deserve this because you have never been free, and freedom must be gain, it is not a disposable product that you can found on the shelves of some supermarkets.
